There are many beliefs associated with Christmas eve.
One belief is that honey bees celebrate the nativity by waking up from their sleep and humming a song in the praise of Christ. Only those people who lead a pious life are able to hear it.
The placing to lighted candle in the window of a house on Christmas eve brings good luck and good health through out the year. Primarily it was a symbol of welcome to Mary and Joseph as they traveled looking for the shelter. The candle is lit by youngest member of the household and is not to be extinguished.

The leaving of the bread signifies the bread for the coming year and the bowl of water may help in curing sickness.
